How to Quickly Create an Awesome Dollhouse Mood Board

It all begins with an idea - or two….ok…..maybe ten. If you’re like me, then you have ALL kinds of decor ideas for your new dollhouse swirling around in your head. Maybe even pictures or scraps of cloth lying around that inspired you at some point. You know that if you could just pull the design together it would be so beautiful and totally Pinterest worthy.

Well, my friend, I am going to show you how to pull together a quick mood board to help organize your dollhouse design.

Mood Boards or collages are visual tools that combine design elements together into a gorgeous graphic display. They make it easy to convey your personal style - in one convenient glance. Mood boards can either be physical or digital. Both have their advantages.

Physical Mood Boards

Pulling together a physical board is fun, especially if you enjoy the tactile elements. Images from magazines, paint chips from the hardware store, and even fabric and a bit of tile & flooring that you might have leftover from a previous project would work.

The bottom line is: if you love it and it inspires you - pop it on your board! When I created the one above, I was surprised that I am more consistent with my style than I realized. Everything felt so cluttered in my mind, but once I put all the pieces together in one place - my vision for my dollhouse really came together.

Digital Mood Boards

So where the physical mood board is awesome because you can touch and feel your design elements, the digital board is awesome in its convenience. Since many of us spend a good bit of our downtime online, we’re bound to come across beautiful images that could be recreated in our miniature homes.

With a digital visual board template, it’s super easy to just drag and drop an image in. Your design style comes together really quickly and it’s a snap to set up multiple boards and layouts. Ya’ll, I literally pulled this board together in 15 minutes - which includes uploading my pictures that I already had saved on my computer.

Conclusion

Since I had never created a vision board before, I decided to do one physical board and one digital board for my current dollhouse design. Now, I am a bit old school and really enjoyed pulling together all of the physical elements. I was very leisurely with it and tweaked it until I had everything right where I wanted it. The vision board became a project in itself!

However, the digital board cannot be beaten for convenience. I love interior design and see things online all the time that I want to recreate on a miniature scale. It’s SO easy with a digital template just to pop my pictures in and quickly be done.

I also love that I can create several boards for the same dollhouse model or even for different versions of the same room if I’m feeling indecisive. Since I could always edit, I felt free to experiment and just have fun.
